How a Measurement Chart Works

The measurement chart turns a fit into numbers that can be checked. It lists each point of measure and its value for every size, and it is the reference the garment is measured against from cutting to final inspection.

Points of Measure

Each point names one measurement, taken the same way every time. These are the usual points for our four product families.

ProductUsual points of measure
T-shirtBody length from the high point shoulder, chest width below the armhole, hem width, shoulder width, sleeve length, sleeve opening, neck width, front neck drop
Polo shirtThe T-shirt points, plus collar length, collar height and placket length
SweatshirtThe T-shirt points, plus rib height at the hem and cuffs
HoodieThe sweatshirt points, plus hood height, hood width and pocket position

How a Point Is Measured

Garments are measured laid flat, smoothed and not stretched. State on the chart whether a value is taken flat across the garment or all the way around it, because one is half the other. A short drawing with each point marked removes most questions.

Base Size and Grading

The sample is made in one base size. The other sizes are graded from the base size according to defined grade rules for each point of measure. Before bulk production, the grading and size set are checked against the approved pattern and specification.

Tolerances

Each point carries a tolerance, the distance a garment may sit above or below the chart. Tolerances follow your specification; where it sets none, they are agreed with the order.
