Fabric Weight Guide for Cotton Knitwear
Fabric weight is the first line of a knitwear brief. It decides how the garment feels, how it drapes and where it sits in your range. This guide explains the measure and the weights TEXIVOS runs as standard.
What GSM Means
GSM is the weight of one square metre of fabric, in grams. A higher figure means a denser, heavier fabric. It says nothing by itself about quality: a light jersey and a heavy jersey can both be well made. It tells you what the garment is for.
The TEXIVOS Standard Programme
These are the weights we run as standard. Other weights are developed to your specification and quoted accordingly.

How to Choose a Weight

T-shirts
The lower part of the range suits core styles and volume programmes. The upper part gives a heavier jersey with a fuller hand feel and a cleaner drape, for mid-market and premium collections and for relaxed or oversized fits.

Polo shirts
Piqué is chosen for structure and recovery. A heavier piqué holds the collar and the placket more firmly; a lighter one wears cooler.

Sweatshirts and hoodies
French terry has a looped back and a flatter, lighter feel. Brushed fleece has a soft, raised back and a warmer feel. Both run on the same weight range.
How the Weight Is Controlled
The weight you approve on the sample is the weight we check on every fabric lot. At fabric receipt, weight, width and shade are checked against the approved swatch before the fabric is released for cutting.
